Robert Fayrfax Henry VIII's favorite composer, gentleman of the Chapel Royal, and organist at Saint Alban's Abbey, the community for whom he composed the Missa Albanus, the centerpiece of this concert. Fayrfax, though long neglected, is the quintessential Tudor composer, whose style reflects the true spirit of early 16th-Century England. His glorious 5-voice mass will be complemented by plainchant propers from the Sarum Graduale, and the celestial motet Eterne laudis lilium, comissioned by Elizabeth of York in 1502, in which the first letter of each line spells out Elizabeth Regina Anglie!
