Georges de la Hèle

(1547 - 1587)


Franco-Flemish composer. Served Philip II of Spain from 1560-70, and after a period as choirmaster at S. Rombault in Malines and in Tournai returned to Madrid as maestro de capilla in 1580. He won motet and chanson prizes at the Évreux composition contest in 1576, and published a volume of Masses (1578) which are parodies of motets by such composers as Josquin, Rore and Lassus.
