Piero Strozzi

(mid-16th C - ?)

Italian composer and aristocrat. A member of the Florentine Camerata, he collaborated with Striggio I and Merulo on music for the 1579 wedding celebrations; one of his songs is the earliest surviving example of the type of expression aimed at by the early monodists. In 1595 he set Rinuccini's La mascherata degli acetate and later collaborated with Caccini.
