Girolamo Cavazzoni [Hieronimo d'Urbino]

(ca. 1520 - ca.1577)


Italian composer. Son of Marco Antonio Cavazzoni. Worked in Mantua from at least 1565 until 1577, supervising the construction of the organ at S. Barbara and then serving as organist there. Wrote mostly for keyboard: ricercars, two canzonas (arrangements of chansons by Josquin and Passereau); three Masses, four Magnificats, and twelve hymns based on chant and designed for alternatim performance; also two somewhat shorter ensemble ricercars.
