Hans Newsidler

(1508 -- 1563)


German lutenist of Hungarian descent. Lived in Nürnberg from 1530, and published four volumes of lute music, including instructions on playing as well as pieces. These books contain arrangements of sacred and secular vocal pieces, preludes in a polyphonic rather than improvisatory style, and dances of various nationalities.
