Arnolt Schlick

(c.1455 - c.1525)

German organist and composer. Blind, possibly from birth, he played at the installation of Archduke Maximilian (later Emperor) at Frankfurt, and thereafter travelled widely as organist and organ expert, collaborating with organ builders. From 1485 his basic employment was in his native city as Electoral court organist. In 1516 he was at the Saxon Elector's court at Torgau with Hoffhaimer , another celebrated organist, and at Charles V's coronation at Aachen in 1520 he is said to have improvised 10-part canons upon the plainsong tune of the Christmas Sequence.
