Erasmus Widmann

South German composer and poet. Born in Swäbisch Hall, he attended the Lateinschule at Swäbisch Hall and the University of Tübingen (1589-90) before obtaining the position of organist at Eisenerz, Styria (1595) and at Graz (1596-98). He later worked at Swäbisch Hall (1598 or 1599), from 1602 Kapellmeister to Count Wolfgang von Hohenlohe-Weikersheim till the count's death in 1610, and finally as cantor and organist at Rothenburg ob der Taube.

A prolific composer, Widmann wrote motets, Psalms, songs, and dance music.
