Nicolas de La Grotte

French composer. From 1562 he was organist to the Duke of Anjou (later Henri III). In 1569 he published a volume of Ronsard settings in a simple and melodious homophonic style which anticipates the air de cour. He collaborated with Le Jeune on music for the Balet comique de la Royne in 1583, published a book of airs de cour in 1583, and also wrote some instrumental music.
