John (?) Hodges (Hodge, Hodgis)

(fl. 1538-82)

English composer, mentioned in Thomas Morley's Plain and Easy Introduction to Musick, as a master of descanting upon plainsong. Organist and Master and Instructor of Choristers of Hereford Cathedral 1538-82. He was still there in 1582 when John Bull was appointed joint organist on December 24. It is possible that Morley was referring to an older composer. No music survives.
