William Mundy [Munday, Monday, Moonday, Mundey]

(c.1529-1591?)

English composer. A singer at Westminster Abbey from 1543; Parish Clerk of St Mary at Hill (1548-53). Bass singer at St Paul's Cathedral from 1559, and Vicar-Choral of St Paul's Cathedral from some ti e in the 1560s. Gentleman of the Chapel Royal 1563-91 His output includes fine examples of both the large-scale Latin votive antiphon and the short English anthem, as well as Masses and Latin psalm settings; his style is vigorous and eloquent. He is represented in the Mulliner Book.
