Melchior Borchgrevinck

(c1569 - 1632)

Danish composer of Dutch descent. Entered Danish court service in 1587; studied in Venice with Giovanni Gabrieli in 1599-1600 and 1601-2, returning to Copenhagen as court organist and becoming Kapellmeister there in 1618. He published two volumes of madrigals shortly after returning from Italy, and also composed dances.
