Gioseffo Guami

(c1540 - c.1612)

Italian composer, brother of Francesco Guami. Probably a pupil of Willaert, he worked at the Munich court from 1568-79, and was first organist at St Mark's, Venice, 1588-91. Later he became organist of Lucca cathedral, and was the teacher of Banchieri. He published motets, canzonas and three volumes of madrigals, and was represented in many anthologies.
