Tiburtio Massaine (Massaini)

(before 1550 - after 1609)



Italian composer and Augustinian monk. Held church posts in Italy -- at Salò in 1585--7, and at Cremona, Piacenza and Lodi from 1594 -- and in the intervening years worked at Innsbruck, Salzburg and Prague. He published eight volumes of madrigals, nine of motets, four of Masses and two of psalms. in addition he contributed two unusual canzonas to a Venetian anthology of 1608, one for eight trombones and the other for four viole and four archlutes.
