Marcin Mielczewski

(1590 - 1651)

Polish composer. A singer in the Rorantist choir at Kraków in 1617, member of the royal chapel and later court composer from 1628, and Kapellmeister to the Bishop of Plock from 1645, he was one of Poland's most important early seventeenth-century composers. Though most of his many Masses and motets are polyphonic in style, some do use the concertato manner, with solo voices and obbligato instruments. His purely instrumental music has a distinctive Polish flavour.
