Bartolomeo Barbarino (Il Pesarino)

(? - 1617)

Italian composer. Maestro di cappellaat the cathedrals of Pesaro and (from 1605) Parma, he published some church music but is mainly important as one of the earliest and most prolific monodists. His style is often dramatic, with extravagant word painting, but in general his best music is in a more melancholy and expressive vein.
