Girolamo Giacobbi

(1567 - 1629)

Italian composer. Spent his whole career at S. Petronio, Bologna, as chorister, adult singer and (from 1604) maestro di cappelIa.He was one of the first opera composers in Bologna, and his Andromeda,given in Salzburg in 1618, may have been the first opera to be performed outside Italy. He also published church music, including psalms for up to five choirs, and large-scale motets.
