Galeazzo Sabbatini

(1597 - 1662)

Composer and theorist, a native of Pesaro. He studied with Vincenzo Pellegrini, a canon of Pesaro Cathedral, before being elected to this position himself in 1626. From 1630 to 1639 he was maestro di cappella to the Duke of Mirandola, and from 1641 again served as a canon at Pesaro Cathedral. As a theorist he produced a treatise on continuo playing (1628) and a method of tuning. His compositions consist mainly of motets and madrigals.
