Edward Coleman

(? - 1669)

English composer, son of Charles Coleman, famous for having set Shirley’s “The glories, of our birth and state.” Performed in the production of the Siege of Rhodes 1656. Gentleman of the Chapel Royal 1660-63. Appointed Musician in Ordinary for lutes and voices 1661. Member of the Royal Band 1662. Gentleman of the Chapel Royal 1663.

Works include The Contention of Ajax and Achilles (1653); Select Musicall Ayres and Dialogues by Playford (1653)
