Carlo Besozzi

(1738-1798)

Italian composer and oboe virtuoso. Carlo Besozzi, son and pupil of Antonio Besozzi, was the oboist with the Dresden court orchestra from 1754 to near the time of his death. He was also a composer who wrote two concertos for his instrument and twenty-four sonatas for 2 oboes, 2 horns, and bassoon, which are preserved in the Gesellschaft der Musikfreunde. The style of his C-major oboe concerto is reminiscent of that found in the oboe concerto in the same key composed by Johann Stamitz.
