Elias Nicolaus Ammerbach

(c.1530-1597)


German organist. Studied at Leipzig University and was organist at the Thomaskirche in 1561-95. His two published organ tablatures include German dances and simple chorale settings as well as transcriptions of songs and motets by composers such as Isaac , Senfl and (especially) Lassus , which he tended to overload with stereotyped ornamentation.
