English musician, son of Nicholas Lanier, the Elder, hence uncle of Nicholas Lanier, the artist-musician. Innocent Lanier was appointed in 1592 a musician to court of Elizabeth I. Served James I as Gentleman of the King' s Chamber. Musician in Ordinary on flutes 1603-25. Never married.
